The Division Movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal coming to Netflix

Ubisoft looks to expand its brand past the medium of video games and into the world of Hollywood pictures. During their E3 2019 conference, the studio announced that a film based on Tom Clancy’s The Division will be coming to streaming giant Netflix. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain, and will be directed by David Leitch.

It isn’t clear if the movie will be based upon the story seen in The Division 1 or 2, or if it’ll be a fresh take on the IP. The casting of Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain is a major get for Ubisoft and Netflix. It’s no secret that films adapted from video games have a rocky history in the world of cinema. Many would argue that we’ve still yet to see a truly great movie based on a video game license. Netflix has also been hard at work building their streaming empire, getting the best talent they can find to create some original content.

Chastain and Gyllenhaal are both big names in the industry right now. Gyllenhaal stars as Mysterio in the upcoming MCU film Spider-Man: Far From Home. Chastain can be seen later this year in IT: Chapter 2, the follow up to New Line Cinema’s smash hit adaptation on Stephen King’s classic novel. Director David Leitch is no slouch either. The director was behind the hit action flick John Wick, and directed Deadpool 2 as well.

There is no current information on a release date or window for The Division movie. In fact, we’re not even clear on when the film will begin shooting. However, the talent assembled seems promising.
