Where was Rocksteady Studios at E3 2019?

Rocksteady Studios decided not to show up at E3 2019, leaving many wondering why. Here's what we know.

E3 2019 has come and gone, and video game fans didn't hear a single peep out of Rocksteady Studios, the developers behind the Batman: Arkham series. The team is working on a new game, but they made a decision not to show or discuss it at this year's convention. Here's why.

Why wasn't Rocksteady Studios at E3 2019?

We've heard very little from Rocksteady Studios following the release of Batman: Arkham VR back in 2016. Rocksteady's Batman games have been wildly successful, and given that success, the developers found a good opportunity to start developing a new game. However, that game wasn't one to be shown at E3 2019.

Of course, we knew this going into the show. In a tweet posted ahead of the convention on June 4, studio co-founder Seften Hill told fans that Rocksteady would skip E3 to remain in London and continue working on its upcoming game.

Whatever this new game is, Rocksteady isn't saying. However, the developers did at least specify that their upcoming project is not based on DC's Superman. As far as we know, it likely isn't based on any DC Comics property at all, though many fans are clinging to the rumor that Rocksteady is in fact working on a property based around Justice League. Unfortunately for now, such is only speculation.

In summary, Rocksteady Studios did not attend E3 2019, reasoning that it would be better for the company to stay home and continue working on its upcoming game than to show up empty-handed. What that new game is we still can't say — at this rate, we assume Rocksteady will drop some fresh details whenever it feels appropriate. It's anyone's guess for now, but perhaps we'll see more about the studio's new project next year at E3 2020.

Pretty much the ONE surprise I was hoping to see pop up, but I guess it wasn't meant to be :( I've been keeping an eye on their social media presence and they've been doing a lot of hiring as of late, so it's good news to see they're still hard at work at something... Just really wish I knew what that something was! I'm hoping it's an original idea not based on any existing IP. Those dudes really deserve to finally let their imaginations run wild with something that is truly their own.

I don't think Rockstar has ever been at E3. The one time they had a game announced at E3 was on Sony's stage. it was Agent and we know how well that went.
