Google Stadia was a bit of a surprise when it was originally revealed back in March of this year. Today we finally got a much deeper look at the upcoming streaming platform, where Google revealed the planned game line-up, pricing details, and even when users can expect Google Stadia to launch. Here’s what we learned.
According to the press conference, Google Stadia is set to release this November within 14 countries. Google Stadia will launch with support for 31 games. Of these games, Google revealed that Stadia will include The Division 2, the new Tomb Raider Games from Crystal Dynamics, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and Destiny 2. We’ll have an updated list of all the games coming to Stadia soon, so be sure to keep an eye out for that.
For now, users will need to pick up the Stadia Pro Sub, which costs $9.99 a month. This subscription includes streaming up to 4K, HDR support, and 60FPS and according to some leaks earlier this morning, will also feature access to several older titles, with newer games available to purchase separately. The leaks also stated that 2020 will bring a free subscription that will allow up to 1080p streaming, but won’t come with any kind of games included, which means you’ll need to purchase them all separately to play them on Stadia. Of course, this wasn’t officially covered in the Stadia Connect, so we’ll have to wait and see where Google goes from here.
Detailed at the reveal, Google Stadia will require a minimum internet speed of 10mbps down and 1mbps upload to work. Those looking to enjoy the 4K content on offer will need at least 35mbps down for “optimal comfort”. Finally, Google detailed the founder’s edition of Google Stadia, which is slated to release at $129. The founder’s edition kit includes a limited-edition Google Stadia gamepad, a Chromecast Ultra, as well as three months of Stadia Pro and a buddy pass for Stadia Pro that allows a friend to join up with you. Stadia Pro also comes with a copy of Destiny 2: Collection, allowing you to dive into Bungie’s hit shooter looter.
