Nier: Automata celebrates over 4 million copies sold

Nier: Automata has reached the enviable goal of selling 4 million physical and digital copies ever since its 2017 debut. Let us be some of the first to say: that's something to be quite proud of.

Platinum Games made a special video (where chief game designer Hideki Kamiya took a break from blocking people on Twitter) to celebrate the milestone.

"The two years since Nier: Automata was released have passed by in a flash," said producer Eijiro Nishimura on the official Platinum Games blog, "and in those two years, we've hit four million sales. That's a new number in PlatinumGames' history for sure. It's all because of you fans out there who've continued to support us and Nier: Automata. I sincerely thank you!"

Before the game came out, Platinum Games wasn't quite sure it'd make it – the massively popular Nier entry was enough to help revitalize the company, however, and put it back on the map.

If you haven't played Nier: Automata, you're really missing out. Shacknews reviewed it and gave it a 9 out of 10:

"As I closed in on the final endings for Nier: Automata, I found myself looking back on my time with it and wondering how I'd encapsulate all that into a review. Like its predecessor, this is something that must be experienced to be properly understood. At the time, I was sure I could see where it was going, and that fact left me wondering if this entry lacked that extra something that made the first Nier so memorable. As I worked my way through the final dungeon, Automata had something to prove in my mind. Would it simply stay the course, or would it save something special for the end? If you know Yoko Taro's work, you've probably guessed the answer to that question. Never before have the very credits held such sway over my opinion of a game. I leave Nier: Automata behind, not just pleased with it, but enraptured by it. Hopefully you will too."

If you haven't yet contributed to the impressive number of units sold for Nier: Automata, it sounds like you may want to get on that pretty soon – it's a great game, seriously.
