The library of hot MMOs on the Nintendo's hybrid handheld is growing, as Daybreak Games has announced that DC Universe Online is coming to the Switch. Players will be able to live out their heroic or villainous fantasies wherever the fancy strikes them later when DCUO releases for the Switch this summer.

First released all the way back in 2011, DC Universe Online is a free-to-play MMO based in the DC Comics canon. Players can assemble a team of their favorite heroes and villains, then strike out on various quests and take down powerful foes.

Like with many MMOs, the world of DC Universe Online is always changing, and now Nintendo Switch players will be able to access all of it on-the-go. The game now features over 300 heroes and villains all based on DC comic series, and players will even be able to access the game's latest content, such as Atlantis or Justice League Dark, which released back in March.

Speaking in a press release, DC Universe Online creative director SJ Mueller said the development team had long hoped to bring DCUO to Nintendo's handheld.

“Bringing such a massive online game to Nintendo Switch has been a dream come true,” Mueller said. “As soon as the Nintendo Switch released, the development team couldn’t help but wonder, what if...? Long story short, we are so excited for players to take their DC experience wherever they go.”

Given how large the game is, the developers had their work cut out for them fitting it into Nintendo's portable hardware. With that said, the newest release should have everything that players familiar with the game would expect. According to a CBR interview, the Switch version only has a few small changes when compared to other consoles, and notably doesn't include cross-platform play, but all of the usual content will be present and playable on the Switch.
