Nioh 2 closed alpha dated for end of May

Nioh fans can jump into the closed alpha of Nioh 2 at the end of May, stretching into June.

Koei Tecmo is holding a closed alpha test for the upcoming sequel to Nioh, the aptly-named Nioh 2, at the end of May.

From May 24 through June 2, Nioh 2 will be available for a limited number of users to try out, which means not everyone will get a chance to give it a spin.

“Some PlayStation 4 users are invited to take part in the Nioh 2 closed alpha to help gather feedback for the development,” said developer Team Ninja tweeted. “To ensure the team can manage the feedback, there are no plans to expand the alpha at the moment, but please keep an eye on our channels for more info in the future.”

As the closed beta inches ever closer, you can check out the trailer for what's to come, which will likely include plenty more austere action from the notoriously difficult game, though it isn't nearly as challenging as the more recent Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Previously, Shacknews reviewed the original Nioh, awarding it a 9 out of 10:

"Nioh is not a copy-cat. It's the type of game that proves that this formula can be a genre all its own, rather than simply a series-specific idea. It embodies the side of game development that allows such great, surprising titles to exist, by improving on solid ideas and adding personal twists that help make this something of its own. Other developers have tried such an approach to this formula, but none have come close to nailing it the way Team Ninja has."

We'll be looking forward to giving this action-packed thrill ride a try, that's for sure. Right now, there doesn't appear to be a lot of information on how to be a part of the closed beta test, but Team Ninja has advised us to pay close attention to its social media channels for additional information.

Fairly excited about this one. Limit the insanely overdone loot pinatas and add more variety to the areas / less replaying the same zones and it's gonna be amazing.
