Team Empire stuns EG to win Rainbow Six Siege Season 9 Finals

The Rainbow Six Pro League has completed another epic season, taking the Pro League Season 9 Finals to Milan, Italy. The Grand Finals came down to North America's Evil Geniuses and Europe's Team Empire. And while Evil Geniuses was able to hit tournament point on Map 2, Team Empire made the shocking comeback and clinched the Finals victory 7-3 on the third and final map to become the Rainbow Six Season 9 champions.

Empire continued an improbable comeback on Clubhouse, the series' third and final map, taking a commanding 6-1 lead to start. Eugene "karzheka" Petrishin and Dmitry "Scyther" Semenov teamed up to pluck the EG forces from the distance in Round 7 to force tournament point. Evil Geniuses was able to stop the bleeding by taking Rounds 8 and 9. EG looked to have Round 10 won, but double kills from both Scyther and Danila "Dan" Dontsov wrapped up the series and the tournament for Empire.

Evil Geniuses cruised through the first halves of both sets. But Empire had no quit in them, able to force Overtime on both maps. The second map on Oregon ended in disaster for EG, who was unable to get beyond tournament point. Empire climbed back from a 6-3 deficit to win five consecutive rounds and tie series up at one a piece.

For their victory, Team Empire takes home a base $75,000 grand prize. However, they're also taking home additional proceeds from Pro League item sales and revenue from the Road to Six Invitational. That brought the overall Season 9 prize pool up to $626,000. Up next for Rainbow Six Esports is the Six Major 2019, which is set to take place in Raleigh, North Carolina. The full week of Siege action will run from August 12-18. Afterwards, Rainbow Six Esports gears up for Season 10, with the Season 10 Pro League Finals announced for Tokonome, Japan. This will be the first time that the Pro League Finals will be hosted in the Asia-Pacific region.

As for Rainbow Six Siege as a whole, Ubisoft revealed two brand new Operators for the game, as well as a map rework. Shacknews will have more on Operation Phantom Sight early next week.
