CRADDOCK: "I tell you what, when they announce Half-Life 3 the Valve Index will be off the charts."

The show opens with some discussion about the Valve Index. Asif is bullish on the Valve Index, while Craddock is not optimistic. They both agree it's a bad name. Asif is a fan of the build specs for the Valve Index.

      8min 50sec
      ASIF: "Valve's losing money."
      CRADDOCK: "Yes."
ASIF: "And I don't mean `they're losing money` in the sense that they're not profitable. I mean they're losing money to Epic Games."
CRADDOCK: "Yeah more and more people are picking up stakes and moving there."
ASIF: "Yeah and then holy crap let's talk about this..."

WIKUS COMMENT: Yeah I think a HL3 vr-exclusive is the only play Valve has left. Oculus Quest and PSVR is gonna eat Valve's lunch, otherwise.

      9min 5sec - Talk about Psyionix

ASIF: Psyonix, acquired by Epic Games
      CRADDOCK: Yeah.
      ASIF: That's crazy to me.
      CRADDOCK: That is ... bananas.
ASIF: --but not that crazy. Because they worked on Unreal Tournament 2004. Psyonix was the team that did the vehicle combat for that game.
CRADDOCK: Oh, right. So there's a working relationshi–
ASIF: Quite a bit of work experience.

Asif posits that Epic aquired Psyonix not for the Rocket League, but rather to get a team of people together to improve/work on vehicle combat for Fortnight.

WIKUS COMMENT: That's an astute observation, and yeah that totally makes sense. I agree.

It is being pushed out in phases.

The first phase was cosmetic, with the new logo, and it added a lot of tweaks for SEO.

The second phase, which is what I was referring to on the Shackcast, is going to introduce Native LOL, reintroduce Mercury, and add some other stuff....

We have been working on this since last year.

And yeah, there is a phase three.

Asif and Craddock talk about the Oculus Quest.

Asif points out that the Quest may have a blindspot when it comes to tracking the controllers when/if they are behind the headset. So for games like Super Hot, it might not be ideal, but for games where content is front-facing, like Beat Saber, it will be fine.

      • reply
        May 8, 2019 2:12 PM

I think you got that flipped. The cameras being added to the Rift S is to help with tracking the controllers around a wider area for games like Beat Saber for which the Rift S designers used the game as a baseline. Two cameras only on the Quest will be sufficient for games that only keep the controllers in front.

I have the Odyssey Plus and have ran into similar issues with the limited cameras. Rift S adds 3 more cameras (one on each side and one on top) to track wider motions of the controllers.

ASIF: Ten declines of twenty percent or more and every single time I looked like a fucking moron. Y'know? So I'm used to it.
            CRADDOCK: Yeah
ASIF: And I'm used to these jokers. But, I have a platform where I can tell you you're a piece of shit so I'm going to.
ASIF: And it's not like I dislike the guy! He's not the worst shacker.
            CRADDOCK: Right.
            ASIF: He's number two.
            CRADDOCK: That's true.

            ASIF: But yeah, rejoice, Wikus!

Yes, I'm an amateur. Maybe we should discuss our portfolios, since what I post is really a small figment of what I invest into.
I'm doing alright though, but there could be the case that a rising tide lifts all boats.
It was a good comment though, informative

      CRADDOCK: No.
ASIF: Wikus, you never were the worst.
      CRADDOCK: No.
ASIF: You were just number three.
      CRADDOCK: Yeah.
ASIF: And you--I'm glad you listened to us.
      CRADDOCK: Right.
ASIF: NOWww... if he doesn't listen to this episode? He's gonna be number one next episode.
      CRADDOCK: Ohhhhh shiit.

        CRADDOCK:Uh huh.
ASIF: And not that I dislike Giantbomb, but I'm like, "fuckin'... we're just sitting here, creating content for what?"
        CRADDOCK: Right
ASIF: For sleepy? (mr.sleepy) one random winner? I'm fine with that. They're great listeners.

ASIF: So yeah, I dunno. Maybe I lost three mercery subs, there. Who knows? I don't really care.

WIKUS SIDE NOTE: I think you've lost ALL of your Mercury Subs, and I certainly care / wish I could re-up my sub.

      ASIF: It's not like, I don't need shirif's money.
      CRADDOCK: Right.
      ASIF: I don't. And he's not listening.
      CRADDOCK: No.
ASIF: But, someone will tell him.
      CRADDOCK: Someone will.
ASIF: And then maybe he'll go back and listen to this. And he'll hear this message. And then he'll be like,

      shirif: Lol

WIKUS SIDE NOTE: He got the message.

I had the Plutonium edition of Duke3d.exe, and I 0wn it in a few other places (2 versions on Steam and 1 on Gog). I also warezed it before all of that because it was leaked before officially released. You could consider me an early adopter.
