Developer interview: The Textorcist: The Story of Ray Bibbia

GDC 2019 is in full swing and the Shacknews team is on location grabbing interviews, including one with Dieter Schoeller, the CEO and founder of publisher Headup Games, to discuss The Textorcist: The Story of Ray Bibbia. The Textorcist is a mix between a bullet hell and typing game, which sounds brutally difficult on its own, but parts of the game will require players to type in Latin while dodging, cranking things up to 11. Greg and Dieter Schoeller discuss this, as well as a few other intriguing topics about the Textorcist.

Besides The Textorcist: The Story of Ray Bibbia being brutally difficult, it’s got a cool pixel-art vibe to it. Schoeller also mentions the game’s unique music, but this is unfortunately not something you can hear in the gameplay during this video.

It goes without saying, but the Textorcist was obviously inspired by the Exorcist, and will see players typing to perform exorcisms while dodging incoming damage. As Greg notes, bull hell games are hard enough, but the addition of a typing aspect is likely to make this title stand out.

Luckily, The Textorcist: The Story of Ray Bibbia is already available through Steam, and currently holds a Very Positive rating among users who have reviewed it on that platform. Schoeller mentions that he’s talking to Microsoft and Nintendo about bringing the game to the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, but there aren’t a lot of details on that beyond their desire to do so.

The pixel art works for me, and if The Textorcist: The Story of Ray Bibbia can nail the gameplay and music, they could very well have an incredible experience to offer here. The embedded video above should help users decide for themselves, but don’t forget to visit the Shacknews YouTube and GamerHub TV YouTube channels for more exclusive content from GDC 2019.
