Developer Quantic Dream has come to this year's Game Developers Conference with a major announcement. The developer is known mainly for its PlayStation exclusive games, like Detroit: Become Human, Heavy Rain, and Beyond: Two Souls. On Wednesday, during Epic's keynote presentation, it was revealed that those will be exclusive to PlayStation no more. These Quantic Dream games are now set to come to PC and they'll hit the Epic Games Store first.
"We are so grateful for twelve fantastic years of collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment and all they have allowed us to create and produce," Quantic Dream co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere said via press release. "With this new partnership with Epic, we can now expand our products to a wider fan base and allow PC players to enjoy our titles."
This distribution agreement between Epic and Quantic Dream is set to last for one full year for each game after it is released, at which point they'll be free to branch out to competitors like Steam and GOG.com. This news comes less than two months after Chinese company NetEase purchased a minority stake in Quantic Dream. At the time, the assumption was that NetEase would help pave the way for Quantic Dream games to come to mobile devices. And while that's still likely the plan, the move to PC was an unexpected one. This news doesn't necessarily mean Quantic Dream's working relationship with Sony is over, but it does mean that the studio's games will now branch out to new platforms. It also implies that Quantic Dream's next big project will likely release on more than one platform.
There is no release date for Quantic Dream's library on PC just yet. Look for Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human to all release on the Epic Games Store later this year.
