Shack's Arcade Corner: Pit-Fighter

Published , by Greg Burke

On this episode of Shack's Arcade Corner, we take a look back at Pit-Fighter. This arcade fighting game was one of the first of its kind to use digitized sprites, a technique later popularized by the Mortal Kombat series. Pit-Fighter hit arcades in 1990 and was published and developed by Atari. The Japanese arcade cabinet was published by Konami. The gameplay of Pit-Fighter was different from a lot of two-dimensional fighters because players could move up and down on levels and not just left or right. Players could choose from three playable characters with different movesets and the game also featured eight CPU opponents. Pit-Fighter saw a ton of ports to most home consoles and was included in several arcade classic bundles over the years. Check out this video to fight out more about the classic arcade fighting game.
