Digital sleuths have been at it again, this time unveiling information concerning ten new characters coming to Apex Legends. The story follows the usual setup: intrepid coders get a hold of game software and start poking around to see if there are any references to new or updated content. In this case, diving into the Apex Legends code cave out a list of Legend Frame callouts with the name of ten characters not yet in the game, including new heroes like Jericho, Rosie, and Wattson.

This information comes to us by way of the Apex Legends Leaks & News Twitter account, which shared the details online following the leak toward the end of last month.

More specifically, Dataminers found Legend Frame callouts using the format "gcard_frame_(legendname)_Legendary_(number)_bg" within the code, with ten instances of "(legendname)" referring to ten previously unreleased Apex Legends characters:

  • Crypto
  • Husaira
  • Jericho
  • Nomad
  • Octane
  • Prophet
  • Rampart
  • Rosie
  • Skunner
  • Wattson

Beyond finding new Legends like Wattson, dataminers were also able to learn a bit about some new Apex Legends weapons. The game's code reveals the existence of two new weapons called the C.A.R. SMG and the Proto Hold Beam. The C.A.R. is something that will be familiar to Titanfall fans, while the Proto Hold Beam seems to be an entirely new weapon created just for Apex Legends. According to a report from Gaming Intel, the weapon is apparently capable of draining energy from robotic targets and redirecting it toward opponents.

We know that developers like Respawn Entertainment often want to keep new characters for games a secret, but datamining leaks for Apex Legends are always going to draw a crowd — and that's especially true when we hear about new legends like Wattson, which makes us thing of lightning-imbued detective sidekicks. There's no telling when or even if these Legends will release, of course, so for the time being, datamined details should probably be treated as rumor until confirmed by the developers. Until then, stay frosty by stopping by Shacknews' Apex Legends game guides and walkthrough.
