Arma 3 free weekend starts tomorrow

Looking to give Arma 3 a try but don't want to plunk down that cold, hard cash?

Starting on February 14 (Valentine's Day, coincidentally), you can enlist in Arma 3 with a free weekend event that lets you try the complete Arma 3 base game and Area 3 Apex expansion without spending a dime.

The free weekend can be triggered by heading to the Steam page for Arma 3 and then hitting that Install button. It should be available beginning on Thursday, and if it's not there when you head over to jump into the free weekend, developer Bohemia Interactive suggests restarting Steam.

Arma 3 is an open-world, realistic military tactical shooter that has a single-player campaign where players are tasked with taking over the U.S. Army soldier Corporal Ben Kerry. There's a wide variety of different missions to tackle throughout the campaign, and engaging ways to take on the enemy, including the usage of artillery, air support, and UAVs.

It's an extremely realistic military game, and may not be everyone's cup of tea, which is a great reason for the free weekend to exist in the first place. It's very much an acquired taste, but there's a lot in the game to fulfill anyone who prefers their shooters be less like Call of Duty or Battlefield and ascribe to be more like the real-world battlefields of the past.

In any case, get your Valentine's Day celebrations out of the way, then hop on your PC for a very romantic session with Arma 3, which your partner may appreciate if they're into games. And take the weekend to see if it's your cup of tea. If you do like what you see, you'll be able to buy he game on Steam and the Bohemia Store at one third of its original price while the free weekend is going on. Arma 3 Apex Edition, the Apex expansion, and other DLC will be on sale ranging from 20 to 66 percent.
