There are a lot of new goodies for players to find and master in Metro Exodus, including the ability to craft their own ammunition, upgrade their weapons and more. But, if you want to be able to pull off any of these new features, you’re going to need to find yourself a Workbench. This quick guide will show you how to find your first Workbench in Metro Exodus, which will give you access to several vital components.

Where to Find Your First Workbench

Before we dive in, I want to note that Workbenches are a dime a dozen throughout Metro Exodus. You’ll find them in several key locations, as these items are very useful to your overall performance and damage-dealing ability in the game. Not only do Workbenches allow you to craft your own ammo, but they will also give you the ability to clean and upgrade your weapons. So, make sure you check in at Workbenches as often as possible, as these important locations will be vital to your survival.

Metro Exodus first Workbench location
Search for your first Workbench in one of the many safe houses scattered across The Volga.

Now that we’ve touched on the importance of Workbenches, though, let’s actually show you how to find one. The first Workbench that you’ll encounter is found not long after you reach The Volga. After your run in with the cultists, you’ll return to the Aurora, where your overall objective in the area will be outlined. To find your first Workbench, ignore your main objective—which is to find a man named Krest—and go exploring instead.

You will find your first Workbench just east of where the Aurora has come to a stop. Head down the slopes and keep an eye out for a couple of knocked over train cars. There might be some demons in the area, so deal with them as you see fit. The car that you’re looking for has a wooden pallet leading up to it.

Approach the location and then use the action button to crawl inside. This will lead you to a small safe house area, where you can find some additional crafting supplies, as well as your first Workbench. As mentioned before, Workbenches are crucial to keeping your weapons cleaned, your medkits stocked, and even for upgrading weapons with additional parts and pieces. So, make sure you visit them often to keep your gear in tip-top condition.
