Insurgency: Sandstorm devs open New World North studio

New World Interactive, the team behind the Insurgency series of shooters, announced today that the team is opening a new studio this year. New World North is the result of sustained growth after the launch of Insurgency: Sandstorm and will support that game's development while also working on an unannounced title.

The studio's most recent released earned a nine out of 10 in our full Insurgency: Sandstorm review, standing out from the 2018 FPS pack with outstanding AI, excellent gunplay, clean presentation, and more.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for New World and marks a major milestone for us as a company as we look to expand upon the success of Insurgency: Sandstorm, by increasing our skillset, production values and continued innovation within the tactical shooter genre," said New World Interactive President Keith Warner in the press release for the announcement.

New World Interactive was originally founded in 2010 by members of the crew responsible for the popular Half-Life 2 mod Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat. Led by founder Jeremy Blum, the studio achieved success with the standalone Insurgency game in 2014 and the WW2 shooter Day of Infamy in 2016. Combined, both titles have sold over six million units worldwide on PC.

“We are committed to constantly improving ourselves and pushing the boundaries with the experiences we create," said New World Interactive Founder Jeremy Blum. "With our roots coming from a hobbyist background, it’s been an ongoing challenge for us to centralize our team. Given the company’s newfound success with Insurgency: Sandstorm we have a tremendous opportunity to open a studio and bring together the majority of our team. After careful consideration into where this location should be, we have decided on Calgary, and look forward to growing our team in our new home.”

Insurgency: Sandstorm is available for PC now and will be released on Xbox One and PS4 later in 2019. New World North should open sometime in May 2019 and the team will start hiring in March. Stay tuned to Shacknews for additional updates.
