LG steps up its monitor game in this 2019 showcase

Coming out of CES 2019, it was apparent that lots of companies want in on the desktop monitor market. We saw new models from most of the usual suspects as well as some wild new designs from companies that are not usually known for their displays. While Korean business giant LG has long been of the world’s largest suppliers of LCD panels, it is not often the first name that gamers think of for top-flight gaming displays. This could all change in 2019 as the company is readying new, state-of-the-art monitors that excel at work and play.

The Shacknews street team was out in full force during CES 2019 and made our way to LG’s exhibit where we got a first-hand look at some of the monitors LG is preparing to unleash on the market in the coming months.

The 27GL850G-B is a 27-inch G-SYNC-powered display that will make use of LG’s Nano-IPS display coating. This coating promises to expand the visible color volume, making for a more vibrant, accurate picture. In addition to its color-reproduction chops, the 27GL850G-B also comes with a 144Hz refresh rate that ensures ultra-smooth gaming performance. This model comes on the heels of the gaming-centric VA-type panels LG put on the market in the second half of 2018 and will fit the bill for users who prefer the look of IPS.

We also got to look at the 38GL950G-B ultrawide monitor. This desk-dominating behemoth comes in a 3840x1600 resolution spread across 38.5 diagonal inches. The 21:9 aspect ratio is a perfect match for scope movie playback or ultra-immersive gaming. Like its 27-inch cousin, the 38GL950G-B will ship with a 144Hz refresh rate on its IPS panel.

Also on display was the 49WL95C-W, a 49-inch monitor with a 32:9 aspect ratio. If 21:9 wasn’t wide enough for you, LG has you covered. It should be a productivity workhorse with its 5120x1440p resolution (think two 1440p screens fused together). The way things are going, we fully expect users to be able to repurpose their monitors as surfboards by the time CES 2023 rolls around.
