A new update to Forza Horizon 4 has removed both the "Floss" and "Carlton" emotes from the game.
Developer Playground Games' Series 5 update brought an abundance of game fixes and other changes for the popular racing title, but the patch notes also make mention of the emotes' removal. Forza Horizon 4 is now officially Floss-less.
There wasn't any explanation offered as to why this might have happened in the patch notes, but it's not hard to guess why the emotes may have been taken out of the game. Recently, there have been several instances of the originators of said dances (as well as rapper 2 Milly's Milly Rock dance and Scrubs actor Donald Faison's Poison dance) being used without permission in Fortnite. It's even spurred the mother of the meme-tactic Backpack Kid to file a lawsuit against Epic Games over the addition of her son's "flossing" dance move to the game in the form of "The Russell."
In another recent suit, actor Alfonso Ribeiro is suing Epic Games over its usage of the iconic Carlton dance, which is labeled in the game as the "Fresh" emote. But while they're being straight up removed rom Forza, they still remain in Fortnite.
It isn't surprising to see Forza Horizon 4 taking precautions so as not to be involved with any backlash surrounding the recent controversies with Fortnite-related emotes. It's likely Microsoft is proactively responding to the situation by removing any sort of content that could potentially cause a liability for the company, which is a smart move indeed. It's a lot smarter than, say, adding dances to a game without the express permission of their creators – if that is, indeed, what Epic Games did in the first place. It'll all come out in the courtroom, but for now even any tangentially-involved parties might want to steer clear of using these dances.
