The Game Developers Conference is getting a major new addition in 2019. Announced today, GDC 2019 organizers are introducing the GDC Main Stage. It takes place on the opening day of GDC's main conference and the various speakers will "invite attendees to gain inspiration and insight into creative challenges and opportunities unique to the game development community." GDC 2019 takes place March 18, 2019, to March 22, 2019, in San Francisco, California.

“The first GDC took place at Chris Crawford’s home with a small group of game developers exchanging their best advice on how to make games better. We wanted to reflect that same spirit of connection and community that’s at the heart of GDC by making the Main Stage a place for all attendees to learn together,” said Katie Stern, general manager of the Game Developers Conference, in the press release for the announcement. “Development can be as rewarding as it is challenging, and one of our goals is to inspire the community to find better ways forward. We’re honored to have Siobhan, Sean and Laralyn to light the way.”

The debut Main Stage presentation at GDC 2019 is called The Developer's Journey and takes place at the Moscone Convention Center's West Hall on Wednesday, March 20, 2019. It will open with a music performance generated by Media Molecule's upcoming title Dreams, followed by a discussion about the game's potential hosted by Media Molecule's Siobhan Reddy. Following that, Hello Games' Sean Murray will be chatting about the unlikely journey of the controversial indie hit game No Man's Sky. His insight into how the development team persisted through 2019 all the way to record player numbers despite missteps at launch will surely be highly sought.

Last but not least, veteran game developer and top-rated GDC speaker Laralyn McWilliams will close out the Main Stage presentation by dishing on how her teams found resolve in stressful environments and how she stayed optimistic and motivated through challenges.

The Main Stage presentation will be open to all GDC Conference and Expo+ pass holders and will also be live-streamed on the official GDC Twitch channel. Pass information can be found on the official GDC website. Stay tuned to Shacknews for additional updates.
