Games Done Quick is back to help kick off a new year by celebrating games and finishing them fast. Awesome Games Done Quick is an annual event that invites the world's best speedrunners to run through the greatest games of the past and present as quickly as possible. They'll raise money for charity as they leave broken records behind them and celebrate the speedrunning community in the process.
This year kicks off a new era for Awesome Games Done Quick, as this year's event is being held in an all-new venue. The week takes place from the Marriott Bethesda North Hotel in Rockville, Maryland. They will be raising money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The event has begun and GDQ has raised over $315,000 in just two days. Shacknews is here with a handful of noteworthy runs from throughout the week that should not be missed.
Before getting into the Day 4 schedule, let's look back at a Day 3 highlight. Come on, Glackum! Come on, Glackum!
Here's the full schedule for Day 4, taken from the Games Done Quick website, along with a handful of noteworthy runs to check out:

11:12AM - Halo: Reach
With the Halo franchise ready to resume soon with the upcoming Halo: Infinite, it's time to revisit what some consider to be the franchise's peak. Halo: Reach is an epic campaign, particularly on Legendary difficulty. Speedrunning it alone is one thing, but a co-op run requires more strategy, better coordination, and a little better luck. WoLfy and Pedrogas will team up and look to finish this campaign off in just under two hours.
6:54PM - Mega Man X 1-3 team relay race
Team relays are often the highlight of any Games Done Quick week. This time around, it's three teams of runners looking to blaze through the Super NES Mega Man X trilogy. Each of these games has their own distinct shortcuts and glitches and these teams will all combine their forces to put all of that magic to work.
10:49PM - The Awful Games Done Quick block
It might look like another entry into the Mega Man block, but those terrible-looking sprites and the ugly-as-sin graphics of the DOS version of Mega Man can only mean one thing. The Awful Games Done Quick block has arrived. The top runners in the world will pull an all-nighter to try and plow through the kinds of bad games that would make the Angry Video Game Nerd hang his head in shame. They'll make the best of a bad game by offering insightful commentary, interacting with whatever crowd members are still awake, and generally lending some levity to the proceedings.
Awesome Games Done Quick 2019 will take place from now through Saturday, January 12. For more, check out the Games Done Quick website and be sure to watch all of the action from Twitch. Also, be sure to check out our TwitchCon interview with GDQ's Matt Merkle.
Ozzie Mejia posted a new article, Awesome Games Done Quick 2019: Day 4 schedule and runs to watch
Awesome Games Done Quick 2019 is in it's fourth day, having raised $485,000 for the Prevent Cancer Foundation!
AGDQ is a Speedrunning Marathon that will take place January 6-13th, 2019 in Rockville, MD, and is raising funds for the Prevent Cancer Foundation ( https://preventcancer.org/ ).
You can watch on https://gamesdonequick.com/ or on https://twitch.tv/gamesdonequick once it starts, and you can contribute by donating at https://gamesdonequick.com/ or making a purchase from one of their affiliated sponsors such as https://theyetee.com/collections/games-done-quick or https://www.fangamer.com/collections/games-done-quick . Additionally, any Twitch channel subs to GamesDoneQuick or bits donations all go to the charity.
Over 128 games will be played and completed as quickly as possible, including recent games like The Messenger and Dead Cells to classics like Sonic The Hedgehog and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Additionally, they aren't just playing the good games, as it seems that the awful game block returns Thursday morning. They are also returning to having the marathon end with a Super Metroid run. While 128 games may seem to be less than past GDQs, this time they are having some marathon runs, with Final Fantasy IX expected to be finished in under 9 1/2 hours, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD in under 6 hours, Nier: Automata [E] ending in under 4 1/2 hours, and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess in just over 4 hours.

If you want to see Octopath Traveler replace setup block 3, around 8:30 PM eastern, then you need to donate for that incentive as they are only at $35K of the $60K needed for that run!
If you missed the Sonic Block yesterday, that was one of the best blocks of the marathon so far:

If you only watch one, watch Sonic the Hedgehog 1, but the Sonic Mania race was great as well and Sanic Ball was short but full of memes.
For Mario fans, you should watch the Super Mario Bros. 3mix Any% Race

CovertMuffin is probably my favorite speedrunners. Great sense of humor, enthusiasm, and positivity. Loved his couch roles this time.
I was watching it at work, only half paying attention to the stream, when I heard that. I was like, "Wait a minute, that laugh is familiar."
Love that dude, made me laugh every time he did.
$500,000 raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation!
Now: TimeSplitters 2 Any% Co-op Easy
Next: Halo: Reach
Then: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Soon: BONUS: Octopath Traveler (? 45K of 60K)
I guess this is the Co-op Block, as both TimeSplitters 2 and Halo: Reach are being played Co-op!
Just wish they weren't doing it on easy, TS2 changed level completion requirements and structure as you increased difficulty. The first level in particular changes a toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon.
Now: Halo: Reach Legendary Co-op
Next: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Then: BONUS: Octopath Traveler (? 48K of 60K)
Soon: Mega Man X 1 - 3 Team Relay Race Blue Bomber Block
Now: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess All Dungeons (4 hours)
Next: Octopath Traveler (? 55K of 60K)
Then: Mega Man X 1 - 3 Team Relay Race Blue Bomber Block
Soon: Mega Man 10
4 hours is too long for a gdq speedrun, CMV
Apparently they think 9 hours is fine for the Final Fantasy IX run Friday night.
Octopath Traveler bonus run incentive met! It will be next, in about 4 hours.
Now: Octopath Traveler Single Story RTA (Tressa)
Next: Mega Man X 1 - 3 Team Relay Race Blue Bomber Block
Then: Mega Man 10
Soon: Mega Man Unlimited
Later: Mega Man (DOS) Awful Block
That was an incredibly fast run! Sub fifty minutes for a JRPG with zero glitches.
i thought octopath was 8 stories though. they only played 1, right?
I think the game ends when you finish one of the 8 stories. The runner focused on that.
Now: Mega Man X 1 - 3 Team Relay Race Any% Blue Bomber Block
Next: Mega Man 10
Then: Mega Man Unlimited
Soon: Mega Man (DOS) Awful Block
This should be another of the must watch runs! Three teams of three players racing through Mega Man X 1 through Mega Man X 3, each player on a team playing a different game.
Excellent time to watch!
Can't believe how close this race is.
I had the VGA version on the family 286. And I say family, but I was really the only one who used the computer with any regularity. Mega Man DOS was hard as shit and completely unforgiving. I don't think I ever even beat the first level.
Someone fed a bot text from AGDQ and generated this
