Resident Evil 2 30-minute "1-Shot Demo" debuts next week

Capcom is letting survival horror fans have a sneak peek of the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake before it officially debuts.

The "1-Shot Demo" will offer players a taste of the full game when Resident Evil 2 launches on January 11. It will be available through January 31, and will allow those on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC to try out the game in a timed 30 minute demo slice. Would-be Raccoon City survivors have to conquer the game's trials in just 30 minutes.

The demo follows rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy as he arrives at the Raccoon City Police Station on his first day on the job. Of course, he wasn't counting on the place being overrun with zombies. Leon has to survive a throng of bloodthirsty zombies before escaping, all the while the clock ticks down. It's going to be an austere challenge, that's for sure, especially since there's so much to explore and so little time to do it in.

If players complete the mission objective under 30 minutes, they can restart the demo and keep playing until they've used the entirety of the allotted time. If they end up falling to zombies during the 30 minutes, they can continue to restart until they reach the full 30 minute limit, but when they triumph, that's it.

When the demo is completed, it will play a brand new cinematic trailer meant only for those who play the demo. You won't be able to restart the demo once finished, but the trailer can be viewed indefinitely when it's unlocked.

The Resident Evil 2 remake uses the proprietary Capcom RE Engine and will offer a brand new take on the classic survival horror game with new scenarios and other interesting changes. It's scheduled to debut on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 25.
