Heroes of the Storm isn't dead yet, Blizzard details 2019 roadmap

It looks like fans of Blizzard's flagship MOBA title, Heroes of the Storm are getting some good news today as an early holiday gift. It would appear that the game’s future is not in question, at least for the time being. Blizzard will continue to support HotS in 2019 and they have a roadmap for the future.

HotS Production Director Kaéo Milker put rumors and fan fears to rest that the game would soon be shutting down in a blog post on the official Blizzard forums:

“...while I can’t give you all the details just yet, I will also say that we’re actively discussing not only the right cadence for our patches and content – we’re also reconsidering some very core areas of the game to identify more ways we can make Heroes even better for players.

Just a few of the many things we’re currently discussing include:

Along with all their plans for next year, HotS will be releasing a patch next Wednesday and extending their Winter Toy Event out until February.

Speculation that Heroes of the Storm was going to be canceled started stirring earlier this month after the esports branch of the team was dissolved and several developers were downsized. It seems that Blizzard isn’t ready to call it a day completely with the game though and recognizes that there is still a solid fanbase out there. It would be hard to deny that MOBA games, in general, have fallen out of the spotlight over the last few years as other game types, like battle royales, started trending. There are still plenty of folks out there that enjoy a good MOBA though and hopefully they’ll be able to play Heroes of the Storm for years to come.
