The Games Awards 2018 have wrapped up, and many gamers are left wondering where some of their favorite games were at the show. One game that many folks have been desperately waiting for any details about is Metroid Prime 4.
While we saw Reggie Fils-Aime on the stage more than once at the show, he remained focused on promoting Super Smash Bros Ultimate, which launches this evening. Nintendo has barely said a word about Metroid Prime 4 since teasing it at E3 2017. Many Nintendo fans were hoping to get just a morsel of information about the next adventure of Samus Aran.
Metroid Prime 3 was released 11 years ago on the Nintendo Wii. The game received critical praise, including somewhat positive impressions from Shacknews' Chris Remo. Nintendo 3DS owners were treated with Metroid: Samus Returns just last year, the Modojo @ Shacknews 3DS Game of the Year.
Nintendo Switch owners have a spoil of riches on their wonderful hybrid tablet consoles, but many fans were expecting a trailer of Metroid Prime 4 when they heard that Reggie Fils-Aime would be at The Game Awards. It isn't all bad for Nintendo fanatics as they did get the unexpected news that Joker from Persona 5 would be joining the roster of Super Smash Bros Ultimate on Nintendo Switch.
The Game Awards 2018 honored tons of Switch games with nominations. Celeste, which found success on the hybrid console platform, took home Indie Game of the Year honors and several Nintendo first party titles were nominated. It has been a weaker year on the first party front for the Big N when compared to the Switch's launch year of 2017. It is hard to top releasing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey in the same year, and Nintendo put itself in this position.
Luckily, we have plenty of time for the Metroid Prime 4 hype train to gain more steam. We can expect some news on a Nintendo Direct in 2019.
