CD Projekt Red details size of Cyberpunk 2077 map

Flat square footage in Cyberpunk 2077's map only tells a piece of the story when it comes to how expansive this open-world will be.

You didn't think Cyber Monday and Cyber Week would go by without some Cyberpunk news, did you? If you did, that's fine because they're completely unrelated, but CD Projekt Red delivered anyway. The latest bit of news is about the makeup of Cyberpunk 2077's open world, the verticality, and activities found within.

VG24/7 reports via PlayStationLifestyle that CD Projekt Red has stated that Cyberpunk 2077's map will be "huge" and feature a plethora of urban buildings filled with "a lot of activities." The reveals come from a response the team made to a fan inquiry about how the game's world will compare to Witcher 3, which was filled with quality distractions. The full response is below:

"Night City holds 6 districts, but I can't give you an exact number in square meters, because no one counted this yet. Also, this is tricky for an urban environment - Night City has lots of buildings and these buildings have floors. You can have 120 square meters of space technically taking up 60m2 of space. In a tall building, and we will have many of them explorable, each floor can house a lot of activities. Floors stack. The Witcher 3 was, in a way, much flatter - the activities were scattered. Here, the world can be huge, but it can be huge upwards, or downwards."

The previously revealed gameplay demo for Cyberpunk 2077 showed a good bit of the game, including some of the multi-level interiors. A driving segment also showed off a good chunk of very different areas, but isn't entirely clear if the player moved through a single district or between different ones. Nevertheless, the game is already showing off a lot of space for unique activities.

Cyberpunk 2077 has no release window at this time and is in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Stay tuned to Shacknews for additional updates.
