Google Maps makes it easier to find EV charging spots

On Android, iOS, and desktops, the application will help you make more informed decisions on your next charging stop.

To the drivers doing our planet a favor with every commute, your efforts are getting a bit easier. Google has added a new feature to the Google Maps navigation application that delivers more useful information about electric vehicle or EV charging stations on your route.

Searching for "ev charging" or "EV charging stations" in Google Maps will show the nearest charging stations. Not only will businesses with EV charging stations show up in the Google app on mobile devices and desktop, information about the stations will be available as well. The amount of ports, the wattage, the type, charging speeds, and more will show up in the app so you can make a more informed decision on your potential stop. Like other businesses that show up in Google Maps, photos, ratings, reviews, and questions will show up as well.

These are all the stations around the world supported by Google Maps, as detailed in the EV charge station blog post:

  • Global: Tesla, Chargepoint

  • US: SemaConnect, EVgo, Blink

  • UK: Chargemaster, Pod Point

  • AU & NZ: Chargefox

The new EV charging station Google Map update starts rolling out today for Android and iOS. The update to the desktop version will be launching in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to Shacknews for additional updates.
