Fortnite update v6.10 adds In-Game Tournaments

Fortnite has become more than a battle royale game to play with friends. As time goes on, it has also become more of an activity to take part in with Twitch streamers and big-time content creators. With this in mind, Epic Games is making it easier than ever for the average Fortnite player to play alongside their favorite streamer or pro player.

The Fortnite v6.10 update is officially adding a new In-Game Tournaments feature, which is open to all players who have opted in for crossplay. The idea is that all players compete in a scheduled session and seek to earn as many points as possible, either through placement or through eliminations. Hitting the target score will grant the tournament player a special pin, which could be used towards prizes down the road.

Tournaments can be accessed via "Events" in the Fortnite Battle Royale main menu. Epic has already laid out an initial tournament schedule across various regions. Here's how it currently shakes out, with start times varying across different regions:

Those who prove to be good tournament players may be able parlay their play into a slot in the 2019 Fortnite World Cup. Epic will look to host the Showdown Royale at a later date, but the developer is also looking to improve the tournaments feature as a whole in the coming months.
