The Street Fighter V esports season is set to reach its climax when the final tournament of the year unfolds in December. But this year's big tournament is going to be a little different. This year's event will take place in Las Vegas.
On Friday morning, Capcom announced that the Capcom Pro Tour's last tournament of the 2018 season would be held at the Esports Arena Las Vegas. This dedicated esports venue opened to the public just a few months ago, but is now set to host one of the biggest events of the year. With over $250,000 at stake, the tournament will unfold over the weekend of December 14-16, with the Last Chance Qualifier tournament taking place on Friday.
This is a big chance for Capcom Cup, as the past few years have seen the event take place at Sony's PlayStation Experience event. However, with PlayStation Experience currently in limbo, Capcom appears to have cemented plans to take the Capcom Cup elsewhere.
Only a handful of events remain in the 2018 Capcom Pro Tour schedule. The standings remain in flux, as the field is rounded out. Defending champion MenaRD (Saul Leonardo Mena Segundo) has his spot in the tournament locked and he will likely be joined by reigning EVO champion Benjamin "Problem-X" Simon. The rest of the field will be determined prior to the big December tournament.
