Square Enix announces The Last Remnant Remastered, launches this year in Japan

Pre-TGS 2018 announcements continue with Square Enix announcing the return of a cult hit RPG. The Last Remnant is getting remastered and will launch this year on December 8, 2018, in Japan exclusively on PS4.

The Last Remnant marked the first time that Square Enix utilized the Unreal Engine and originally launched on Xbox 360 back in 2008. Instead of the classic turn-based mechanics so often seen in JRPGs, this title allowed players to fight using unions of up to five characters. It's pretty interesting that this remaster is launching exclusively for the PS4, considering the original game debuted on Xbox 360 before transitioning to PC. Nevertheless, the game looks very good in the brief glimpses shown in the trailer and hopefully signals a desire to continue the franchise in one way or another.

The Japanese remaster of The Last Remnant has a 3,980 yen price tag (roughly $35) and will only be released in a digital format. There's no word on a US release yet, so stay tuned to Shacknews for additional updates.
