On Wednesday morning, Nintendo had announced plans for a Nintendo Direct that was set to air on Thursday at 3PM PT. However, a devastating earthquake struck Hokkaido, Japan early Thursday morning, creating massive landslides and leaving a chunk of the area without power. An NPR report notes that over 3 million buildings are currently without electricity.
In the wake of the 6.7 magnitude earthquake, Nintendo has come forward and announced that the planned Nintendo Direct would be delayed indefinitely.
A new time and date for the Direct has not been given. Nintendo will report back once the disaster has subsided, but as of the time of this writing, multiple aftershocks have continued to strike near the earthquake's epicenter, with magnitudes ranging from 2.7 to 5.4. The earthquake comes days after western Japan was struck by Typhoon Jebi, leaving at least 11 dead and more than 100 injured.
