The evolution of virtual reality experiences leans on many elements, but a focal point for developers and engineers has been improving the immersion. Part of that is eliminating the many cords that can entangle a VR user and HTC is finally about to usher in a new era for thier Vive VR HMDs with the launch of the Vive wireless adapter. As of today, preorders are available for the new device and it costs $299.99.

HTC partnered with Intel and Display Link to craft a device capable of untethering VR consumers from their PCs while also maintaining the performance needed to keep those users from getting motiona sickness via delays and frame stuttering. The adapter works for both the HTC Vive and Vive Pro and requires an open PCI-e slot to work. The official HTC website limits purchases to one-per-order and includes two months of Viveport as well. The website also reveals that the Vive wireless adapter will start shipping this month.
