DICE outlines commitment to Battlefield 5 and patch notes for upcoming open beta

EA and DICE are preparing for the upcoming Battlefield 5 open beta that goes live this week. Ahead of this, the team at DICE has penned a long read that outlines the team’s approach to polishing the game’s multiplayer modes between now and the official release date. This posting appears to represent a more open approach to fans and players and could be the result of reports that Battlefield 5 is underperforming with its pre-order sales.

In the exhaustively-detailed post on the Battlefield forums, Community Manager Jeff Braddock gives a rundown of the team’s thought process behind the analysis and reactions to the feedback and telemetry collected during the two Battlefield closed alpha periods over the last two months.

Braddock512 explains, “We hope that by digesting this document you’ll get a glimpse into how the development of Battlefield V’s Open Beta progressed, and at the same time give context to why we chose to do the things we did. Consider these first patch notes a small but important piece in a much more open communication approach from us developers to you, the player. We will from this point forward try our best to communicate changes, learnings and improvements made to the game as early as possible, direct from the source!”

After the completion of this week’s open beta, the team at DICE will have an additional month to work on the game after news broke this week that the game’s release date has been pushed back into late November, likely to escape the shadow of Red Dead Redemption 2, among other considerations.

Today’s proclaimed change of focus, along with the previous announcement that Battlefield 5 would not have a premium pass (thus not splitting the player base months after release), shows that the team is trying to assure players that they are the focus, rather than the almighty dollar. Time will tell if Battlefield 5 can regain favor with its core player base.
