As has become all too common over the last twenty years, a gunman selfishly opened fire on a group of innocent people over the weekend during a Madden 19 qualifying tournament in Jacksonville, FL. When the dust settled, ten were injured and two young men, Eli ‘TrueBoy’ Clayton and Taylor ‘SpotMeplzzz’ Robertson, were dead. Both Clayton and Robertson were participants in the competitive Madden community. In the wake of this tragedy, Madden publisher EA has announced the establishment of a one million dollar Jacksonville Tribute Fund and plans to host a memorial livestream in honor of the victims and their families on September 6.
In addition to the one million dollar donation, EA promises to open up the fund for public contributions for those who would like to support those affected by the shooting. With playing games and livestreaming being at the center of lives of those lost, EA will be organizing and hosting a stream to celebrate those lost and to unite the community through play.
“We’ve heard from so many of you that you would like to support the victims, and to show that this horrific event will not define us, but only serve to make our community stronger,” explains the post on EA’s website. “We’re already working with many of you to help make this happen through the livestream.”
