Activision and Treyarch revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 to the world at a special preview event back in May. At the time, the focus was on detailing the new game modes and improvements to the series. The PC version of the game was mentioned in passing, specifically that it would be migrating from Steam to Blizzard’s Battle.net for distribution and matchmaking. Today, the PC version gets its time in the sun with a new ultrawide trailer showing off the features Black Ops 4 will get once it shakes free from the consoles.
Most of the touted bonuses of the PC version can be rather groan-inducing, specifically the mention that the game supports mouse and keyboard, 4K resolution, and uncapped framerates. These are not new to Black Ops on the PC or the Call of Duty franchise as a whole and are considered to be the most basic of PC game features. Native ultrawide support is confirmed, which is welcome, and the trailer itself is presented in a 21:9 aspect ratio. HDR support was mentioned back at the May preview event, but is nowhere to be seen in this trailer.
We got to take a look at the game up close during its PS4-exclusive beta session on the Official Shacknews Twitch Channel. Additionally, our own Ozzie Mejia penned a preview after seeing the game at the May event. Black Ops 4 will get its own Battle Royale mode in the form of Blackout. You can get first hand experience with the new mode when a special Blackout beta begins on PS4 in September. Black Ops 4 will be released in full October 12 on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
