Today, IO Interactive announced an expansion of the Hitman universe with World of Assassination. The initiative brings locations from the previous Hitman season one into the upcoming Hitman 2 via DLC and the areas will be remastered to take advantage of new mechanics and progression introduced in the sequel.

The Hitman Legacy Pack features Paris, Sapienza, Marrakesh, Bangkok, Colorado, and Hokkaido and adds features like picture-in-picture mode, tactical mirror usage, improved enemy AI, new weapons, and improved visuals. These new additions are all that is currently confirmed, but World of Assassination will continue to introduce content that explores the Hitman franchise's past and future.

“We have been through an amazing journey with our fans and community and are extremely proud of the continued love and support,” said Hakan Abrak, CEO, IO Interactive, in the press release for the announcement.“This is our way to say a big thank you and give something back. We have finally revealed our long-term vision to deliver the World of Assassination, an ever-expanding continuous universe starting from Paris in Season 1, going all the way through to the end of Hitman 2 and beyond with our future endeavors. To create a universe like this is not only an ambitious task creatively, but also technically. I am in awe and admiration with our incredibly talented team and what they have achieved.”

The World of Assassination is the branding for IO Interactive's continued investment in live content for the Hitman series. In addition to adding all Hitman season one content, the currently-available Sniper Assassin mode will get new content. The team says that, via World of Assassination, everything from "season one onward will now live under one ever-expanding roof." The team has switched publishers, but seems to have found a way to organically continue the season format and live releases the previous game introduced.

Hitman Legacy Pack will be free for all that owned the previous game and it will be available at Hitman 2's launch. IO Interactive retained the rights to the series based on a legendary assassin and is taking the show on the road with Hitman 2 being published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment instead of Square Enix. Hitman 2 is set to launch November 13, 2018, on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Stay tuned to Shacknews for additional updates.
