How to Change Between Third and First Person Camera View - No Man's Sky Next

Published , by Kevin Tucker

No Man's Sky is a game that has constantly struggled to make up for its less-than-stellar launch, and part of that effort involves developer Hello Games releasing a steady stream of new updates and changes — enough to earn the game the Shacknews Award for Best Comeback of 2017. Now players have several new changes to check out, all released as part of the much-touted Next update as well as the Beyond update that landed just recently. One of the more exciting changes offered through Next is the option to switch between first-person and third-person views, and we know just how to change between both camera modes.

How to Change Between First Person and Third Person View in No Man's Sky

Good news looms over the horizon for No Man's Sky fans who never really cared for the first-person viewpoint: Following the Next update, the game now defaults to a third-person view. However, the first-person camera mode isn't gone altogether; instead, users who want the classic first-person camera back simply need to toggle it in the game's settings.

You can bring up the Utilities menu via X on the keyboard to change your camera view in No Man's Sky.

Fortunately, No Man's Sky Next packed in an all-new quick menu that players can use for just such settings. PC players can bring it up by pressing the X key, while PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players can press and hold the down button on their controller's directional pad. Once the menu is up, select Utilities, then navigate to the side to find the Camera Mode option. Select it to toggle between third-person and first-person viewpoints.

It's worth mentioning that the camera options can be changed in two different scenarios: Typical gameplay on the planet's surface or while inside various spacecrafts. Players can even select their preferred viewpoints for each situation, i.e. first-person on the ground and third-person on a ship or vice versa.

No Man's Sky Next and Beyond include far more than the new option to swap between first-person and third-person camera views. To learn more about the game and its latest features, be sure to head over to Shacknews' No Man's Sky walkthrough and guide.
