Rocket League Celebrates Year 3 In July With New Playlists, Balloons

Popping balloons sounds more fun than unlocking crates.

Rocket League is celebrating its third anniversary, and thus developer Psyonix is bringing us a celebration of all things "car soccer" to commemorate its launch back in 2015. It's hard to believe it's been that long, but here we are!

There's a new Anniversary Event scheduled to begin next week, which will run from July 9 through July 23, with plenty of cool stuff happening in the interim, like some cool retro throwbacks to the Super Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle Cars that acts as the game's predecessor with a new Throwback Stadium. The stadium will even feature a little "lighter" balls, so expect that they might behave a little differently than usual.

You can play in an all-new 3v3 Anniversary playlist that's been added to the Casual Playlists, and that's where you'll find the Throwback Stadium. It looks like an awesome new way to experience the game, especially if you're a Rocket League vet.

Additionally, during the event, there will be no crates or keys. Instead, players will simply be rewarded with balloons that you can redeem for special prizes without keys or other malarkey. You'll just pop the balloons to receive one of 60 different items that can be used as cosmetic alterations for your favorite battle car. The balloons will expire after the event is over, so make sure you see what's in them quickly!

There's a lot to enjoy about this celebration, so if you've been playing since its debut or even if you're a newbie, take a look and see what's on offer during the celebration. You might just decide you're a new hardcore fan!
