Valve Reaffirms VR Focus, Teases Top-Secret Games

Is Valve working on the next major virtual reality IP?

Valve has redesigned its website and with that comes a reinvigorated focus on games and hardware. Part of these new focal points is the role of VR in Valve's future and a reminder that the company is working on three "top secret" games. Gabe Newell revealed Valve was working on VR games internally back in January and that work continues.

Road to VR covered the site's redesign, noting VR's prominence on the site and in a video montage of the company's projects that plays in the background. Open positions are on the site's landing page, as well, and VR research and development are among them.

On another end of the VR development spectrum, Valve has now opened an opportunity for custom VR controller bindings via SteamVR. Via the PC Gamer report, the new input system scratches the limitations of the default VR control schemes.

"This new input system also allows developers to adapt their games more easily to diverse controllers. Developers control the default bindings for each controller type, and can offer alternate control schemes directly without the need to change the games themselves," Valve explains.

Valve was recently in the news cycle for another exciting reason, announcing the purchase of indie developer Campo Santo. That team is responsible for the breakout hit Firewatch and is working on the upcoming In The Valley of the Gods.
