PlayerUnknown Teases New PUBG Island Map at GDC

The top boy at Bluehole dangles a glimpse of the new map in front of fans on Twitter.

PUBG made its big 1.0 launch on the PC back in December, and with it came an all-new desert map known as Miramar. A few months removed from the big launch, the dev team is preparing the next PUBG map for release. Battle Royale creator Brendan Greene (aka PlayerUnknown) took to Twitter this afternoon to give the game’s enormous playerbase the first glimpse at the new map.

The new map is smaller than the previously available PUBG battlezones, coming in at 4x4km. The original PUBG map, Erangel, measures in at 6x6km. The smaller size of the map is designed to make drops into it more frantic and fast paced. It sports an equatorial island theme, though the greenery seen in the teaser looks less dense than you might see on a real equatorial island or in Arma 3’s similarly-themed Tanoa map.

In the Tweet, Greene states that the map will be available on the game’s test servers soon. Based on Bluehole’s previous history of game feature and content additions, players should expect to see the map very soon. Once the new map goes live on the test servers, it will be accessible to all owners of PUBG on Steam. You can refer to our guide on accessing the test server client here.

This game doesn't need more maps. It needs to fix the jank.

Agreed. Could put some work into miramar as well.

Jank has been greatly reduced in the past few weeks if you haven't fired it up.

Obviously some hit detection/net code issues still that I'd rather be prioritized, but it's much better.

Every version makes a lot of improvements and some are very noticeable.

Latest version I don’t know what they did but I can hit people in moving vehicles so much easier now. Killed 3 guys (two of whom on a motorcycle) after the latest patch came out in my first game in it.

Also my brother and I almost got back-to-back WWCD in Duo FPS (lost the second one).

The only annoying jank I've run into is when items fall into the ground and can't be picked up when we try to swap stuff out on the ground, especially if the ground isn't level.

I've been wanting a smaller map since the very first time I played PUBG.

Still looks pretty darn big tho.

        What jank?

I'll take a new map though

I have been told over and over for countless games that the map makers aren't necessarily the jank fixers and the developer can work on multiple things at once. You need a good project manager that can map out the jank path while the map makers make maps.

I am being intentionally obtuse concerning your post.

I hate how hip-fire and ADS are separate keybinds. Default should just be hipfire, and mouse2 should be ADS. God it feels so clunky.

Any word on whether or not the player count will still be 100 on this map? I would love if it stayed at 100 on more than 50% less square footage than erangel. Fun fun fun!

I've been assuming it would still be 100 because that's the standard and I haven't heard otherwise. That's the whole reason I want a smaller map, high amount of players in a smaller initial game space. PUBG Turbo.

If they lower the player count too it will likely be just as spare in terms of action during the middle phase, but the overall rounds should still take less time, which is the silver lining I suppose for those looking for faster matches.

I read somewhere that it was rumored to be down to 60. Can't recall where. Seems like something they would do :/
