Third Tomb Raider Game Tease Includes Leaked Release Date

Square Enix is teasing the reveal of the third Tomb Raider game, but it doesn't take an archaeologist to solve this mystery.

Near the end of 2017, Square Enix assured Tomb Raider fans that the third chapter of the rebooted franchise would see the light of day. They went to Twitter to promise a nebulous 2018 announcement. That announcement now looks to be imminent.

The Tomb Raider website is pointing to March 15 at 6AM PT, with the picture of an eclipse. This appears to be the date for the reveal of the next Tomb Raider game. To further add fuel to the fire, the folks at Kotaku did some digging. And sure enough, right-clicking the page and hitting "View page source" reveals within the HTML the message:

"tagline":"Shadow of The Tomb Raider is the climatic finale of Lara's origin story. Available September 14th 2018"

Typos aside (unless the next Tomb Raider is somehow related to the climate), the next Tomb Raider does appear to be closer than anyone is expecting. Look for more information to arrive on Thursday, as the big announcement is expected early in the morning.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
