Facebook Hopes To Inspire Change With Newly Revealed Women In Gaming Initiative

Watch some stories from women with varying perspectives across the gaming industry.

Facebook’s efforts to shed more light on women in the gaming industry has culminated in a new page that shows off women that work in roles that span from CEO to producers and writers. The Women in Gaming initiative and Facebook hope to encourage more women to pursue careers in the massive (and growing) gaming industry.

The new Women in Gaming page, reported on by VentureBeat, branches off from Facebook’s business hub and starts things off with the #SheTalkGames hashtag and this mantra:

"Our mission is to champion diversity in games, encourage more women into leadership positions and work together to inspire change."

The website will serve as a home for stories from various women across the gaming industry, a guide to who Facebook is partnering with for Women in gaming, and a hub for industry research focused on the influence of women on the gaming industry.

Some of the cool stories featured are from women like Rovio’s CEO Kati Levoranta, writer, producer, and What’s Good Games founder Andrea Rene, and writer Rebecca Harwick. There many faces that work with Facebook Gaming, but it seems like the door is open for women all over to share their stories.

A Newzoo report shared that 46% of gamers in 13 countries identified as women and this initiative shows that women have an important voice behind the scenes, one that could and should have an even larger impact going forward as the gaming industry and eSports grow.
