ConcernedApe Has Begun Work On A New 'Secret' Game

The Stardew Valley developer has revealed that work has begun on an all-new title.

Simple farm life title Stardew Valley has been a tremendous success for independent developer Eric Barone, who works under the psuedonym ConcernedApe. Not only did his retro-styled game make waves across both consoles and PC, its success has gave him the opportunity to begin thinking about his next creation. While most fans knew that ConcernedApe would eventually release a new game, Barone just yesterday confirmed that work on his new 'secret' title has already begun.

While Barone didn't provide any official details about the new game via Twitter, some concepts about his upcoming title were revealed during a Reddit AMA around four months ago. When asked what elements of design he'd like to improve on with his next game, Barone had this to say:

"In Stardew Valley, I held back to some degree... I took a softer approach... partly because I felt like I was following an already established tradition (Harvest Moon). With my next game I want to go all out with my ideas, take things to the extreme, create an even richer and more detailed game world."

Barone also stated within this AMA that while his next game wouldn't be an expansion or sequel to Stardew Valley, it will take place on the same planet as Stardew Valley. As far as gameplay style is concerned, he had this to say:

"I don't want to reveal too much at this point, but I am thinking of approaching my next game with a similar mindset to Stardew Valley -- take a style of game that was never fully realized (or that changed trajectories, leaving unexplored possibilities), and carry on the tradition in my own weird way."

We'll likely have to wait a while before any concrete details about the new game surface, but until then, players can still enjoy the relaxing, addictive farming action in Stardew Valley, which was made available for the Nintendo Switch last October.
