All-time classic RPG Chrono Trigger reached a new frontier on Tuesday morning. Square Enix suddenly released a special Limited Edition of the 1996 Super NES RPG on Steam. And while it looks really cool, it's also worth noting that it's only available for a limited time.

Chrono Trigger is the story of Crono, whose journeys through time in search of a lost girl named Marle. His quest begins four centuries earlier, but it hardly stops there. This is the story from the creators of Final Fantasy, Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, and Dragon Quest creators Yuji Horii. While the Super NES-era RPG will feel familiar to fans, this Steam edition of Chrono Trigger features higher-resolution graphics, updated music, updated control schemes for both controller and keyboard, and an autosave feature.

The Limited Edition will come with a special Chrono Trigger bonus medley with five new songs, liner notes from composer Yasunori Mitsuda, and six PC wallpapers. But this is truly a "limited" edition, as it's only available until April 2.

Chrono Trigger's Limited Edition is going for $14.99 on Steam. For the unfamiliar, there's a trailer above.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

I think "Limited Edition" only refers to the soundtrack bonus, not the game itself.

Don't bother getting it, it's just the iOS version ported to PC.

From what I've heard the DS version is the best version of the game.

They even left in the touchscreen user interface and system UI calls for text input, which looks awful on non-mobile devices.

No, I've gotten my two monitors up to compare, and the SNES emulator destroy this shitastic port in quality / look. Very sad. Disgusting really.

I’ll buy it, but I’m gonna be pissed if it comes out on the Switch a month later.

Stay far away.. they definitely got the "limited" part of this correct, this is ended up being a total trash port.
