BioWare Confirms New Dragon Age In The Works

Despite the overwhelming pressure surrounding Anthem, BioWare is laying the foundation for a new entry in their fantasy series.

Anthem's development has reached "all hands on deck" status along with a slight delay into 2019, but it looks like a tried-and-true franchise will be returning to the front lines soon after Anthem is released. Executive Producer Mark Darrah has confirmed that people are hard at work on the next Dragon Age.

A report yesterday detailed a dark cloud hanging over the development of Anthem, but this new bit of news should serve as a beam of light shining through. RockPaperShotgun spotted this tweet from him and, hopefully, we'll get a few teases later in the year for what Dragon Age 4 will bring.

Inquisition was a well-received evolution of the Dragon Age formula and it will be interesting to see what new elements this next entry is built upon. The Anthem report shared that some "live" elements would be introduced, but it shouldn't get away from a strong narrative with intriguing characters.

Seriously? 3 was way better than 2

Strange thing about opinions is sometimes they differ.

I'm with pigvomit, I preferred DA2 to Inquisition. I played through the original game and DA2 2 or 3 times each, never finished inquisition.

I never played 2, but a guy I knew kept hyping Inquisition and I eventually caved and bought it.

It's one of the worst games I have ever played. AM hate text from I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream goes here.

I feel like 3 had way more content than 2 but most of it was fluff. I enjoyed playing 2 much more.

This is how I felt. Inquisition very quickly became a slog getting to the character/story parts I cared about.

2 was not a bad game. It probably started out as another add-on for DA that someone thought they could make a game out of. Either that or EA forced them to rush it out the door. Probably some combination of both. Take away the copy and paste levels and it there was a decent game there. Combat wasn't bad and I liked the story.

Dragon Age 1 was great. The Expansion was ok. Dragon Age 2 was terrible. Dragon Age: I was good but bloated.

yep. too much bland filler, but I see why they did it when you know what happened with DA2.

DA:I wasn't a total disaster, so I wonder what they are tweaking - and if they will remove loot crates from dragons in time.

i dont know if they'll learn from their mistakes. i mean they took all of what made inquisition awful and turned it into a mass effect game with andromeda, even though it was a different team(surely they had cross studio heads to oversee how a new team was doing things with their most important franchise?)

I want to say this is awesome news... but as of now I have close to zero confidence in EA or this game :(

Will see, please be good and I hope it has no micro transaction, loot boxes, pay walls and all of the other wonderful stuff EA is now known for.

Hopefully they don't use the same engine as Inquisition & Andromeda.

I wonder if this will be the game that kills Bioware?

        That will probably be Anthem

If Anthem manages to be better than middle of the road they'll definitely have a chance to collapse with the new Dragon Age though.

What's the angle with Anthem? Are they hoping to just catch the interest of all the Destiny 2 fans that got bored with that content?

For the record I'd rather see them finish Andromeda than potentially kill another IP.

Nah, they definitely had DLC planned to finish the storylines for the missing Arks, if nothing else...

Poor reviews/sales put the final nail in the coffin for what was rough around the edges (with insane animations and facial modelling), but still an enjoyable game (IMO).

If The Witcher 3 never came out, Inquisition would probably be seen as a decent game still.

It would still be compared to the previous two games, which I thought were much better.

DA:O was really, really good. DA2...ehhhhhh...I cite it as one of my least favourite BioWare games ever.

My GF, who kinda got obsessed with the first two, thinks it's underrated, although much of the interesting story is in books which is definitely a mistake. The single-setting-over-time idea definitely didn't work for everyone though.

After Andromeda I'm skeptical, but EA or not, they've got smart people working on these games. I'm sure they realize that in a post-TW3 world another boiletplate grind fest like Inquisition will not cut it.
