It's a new year and that means it's time, once again, for the folks at Games Done Quick to get together to raise some more money for charity. Awesome Games Done Quick is an annual event, held in the month of January, where the world's best speedrunners come together to blaze through games of the past and present as quickly as possible.

This year, Awesome Games Done Quick has touched down in Herndon, VA. They will be raising money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The event has begun and has already raised over $750,000! As the week goes on, Shacknews is here to offer a look at some of the noteworthy runs from throughout the week that should not be missed.

Before getting into the Day 6 schedule, let's look back at this cool Day 5 highlight:

6:00 AM - Super Mario Galaxy

If you're reading this story as it goes up, then switch on Twitch right now. Before there was Super Mario Odyssey, there was Super Mario Galaxy, which some would consider to still be the superior 3D Mario game. Watch 360Chrism blaze through the game in less than three hours. And for those who love Luigi, he's currently leading the bid war by a landslide and will likely be the brother of choice for this run.

2:51 PM - Mega Man 1 - 3 Team Relay Race

The Blue Bomber goes prime time! For Mega Man's 30th anniversary, Awesome Games Done Quick is running a four-team relay race across the first three Mega Man games. These are all classic platformers in every sense of the word, but they're also incredibly tough. There's potential to get tripped up anywhere, which means leads will be going back and forth throughout the 90-minute run. This promises to be one of the highlights of the entire week, so grab a drink and gather in front of the monitor for this one.

4:36 AM - The Legend of Zelda

If you woke up to watch the Super Mario Galaxy run, hopefully you managed to squeeze in a nap. There's another big speedrunning race for a classic game, with JSR2gamers, BT, and RandomEffekt all racing through the original Legend of Zelda. It'll be on in the wee hours of the AM for west coasters, so they'll likely miss out. If you're on the east coast, this will be a great way to start your morning.

Awesome Games Done Quick 2018 will take place from now through Saturday, January 13. For more, check out the Games Done Quick website and be sure to watch all of the action from Twitch.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
