It's a new year and that means it's time, once again, for the folks at Games Done Quick to get together to raise some more money for charity. Awesome Games Done Quick is an annual event, held in the month of January, where the world's best speedrunners come together to blaze through games of the past and present as quickly as possible.

This year, Awesome Games Done Quick has touched down in Herndon, VA. They will be raising money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The event has begun and has already raised over $600,000! As the week goes on, Shacknews is here to offer a look at some of the noteworthy runs from throughout the week that should not be missed.

Before getting into the Day 5 schedule, let's look back at this incredible Day 4 highlight, where a world record was made. And it's the best (?) kind of world record!

Here's the full schedule for Day 5, taken from the Games Done Quick website, along with a handful of noteworthy runs to check out. (Times subject to change.)

10:53 AM - Star Fox 2

Star Fox 2 is a noteworthy entry to this year's Awesome Games Done Quick, simply because it's the first time it's being run on the Games Done Quick stage since it finally released in North America after two decades. While the game itself isn't anything to write home about, the run should be interesting to watch, especially on New Game+ Expert. If nothing else, this should prove to be a fun history lesson.

6:13 PM - Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition

This week's races at Awesome Games Done Quick have been incredible to witness and that trend isn't about to slow down with Ori and the Blind Forest. Vulajin, sigma, Terra, and Hydra will have to collect all of Ori's various Skills and complete this surprisingly difficult platformer. It'll also help kick off the Indie Games Done Quick block, which is always a fun batch of games to watch.

10:43 PM - Spelunky

With a second Spelunky game in the works, this seems like a great time to revisit the dangerous caves of the original game. Kinnijup will explore the game's many shortcuts and look to take down Olmec in just a short half-hour, which is going to be an impressive feat, given how brutally hard some of these Spelunky stages can get.

Awesome Games Done Quick 2018 will take place from now through Saturday, January 13. For more, check out the Games Done Quick website and be sure to watch all of the action from Twitch.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
