The 1987 classic Maniac Mansion has popped up on Steam, completely out of the blue.

Double Fine has spent the past couple of years remastering the old-school Lucasfilm Games classics. But there's still one game that hasn't gotten the remastered treatment and that's the original Maniac Mansion. That's still the case as of Monday, but old-school adventure game players might be surprised to see that the original 8-bit version of the game has suddenly popped up on Steam.

Maniac Mansion tells the story of Dave and his friends, who wander a creepy mansion in search of their friend Sandy. She's been kidnapped by Dr. Fred, who is looking to take her brains. This classic 1987 adventure game is all about exploring the mansion's rooms, pointing and clicking, and soaking in the story's off-the-wall humor.

Maniac Mansion is going for $5.99 on Steam, but there's currently a launch promotion that has it going for $4.01 until Christmas Day.

For those that would rather keep their five dollars, the original Maniac Mansion is also available somewhere in Day of the Tentacle Remastered, for those intrepid enough to find it.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
