Most people think about Catan, or Settlers of Catan for those with a penchant for complete titles, as the popular empire-building board game. It hasn't always been a tabletop affair, however, as Catan has existed in various forms since its inception back in 1995, and that includes a number of different video games that present the usual sort of twists on the traditional Catan formula. Now, however, Catan Studio and Asmodee Digital have gotten together to announce the release of Catan Stories: The Legend of the Sea Robbers, the first and so-far only text-based mobile game set in the Catan canon.

Developed alongside Klaus and Benjamin Teuber, the original creaturs of Settles of Catan, the new mobile game is available for purchase now on both iOS and Android devices. Following the story of three characters on a journey through the Catan universe, Catan Stories presents its tale alongside an "atmospheric soundtrack" and 360-degree-enabled visuals. Though no specific plot points have been mentioned in Asmodee Digital's press release, Catan Stories places emphasis on user decisions, with each choices ultimately deciding the fate of the island.

“It’s humbling to know that Catan fans continue to be so engaged with the brand after all these years," said Catan creator Klaus Teuber. "Catan Stories expands the game’s spirit of curiosity, discovery and exploration, and is an exciting new genre for players to experience and interact with the brand."

Interested mobile players can check out everything there is to know about the new text-based adventure by heading to the official Catan Stories website or by checking out the game's official launch trailer, featured below. The game can be downloaded for $1.99 via the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
