PlayStation has lined up arguably one of its biggest months of freebies since the inception of its PlayStation Plus free games program. It's being led by 2015 epic Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the most recent game in the series and creator Hideo Kojima's final project before his divorce with publisher Konami. The Phantom Pain cracked the Shacknews Game of the Year list in 2015, coming in tied for #10.

The other PlayStation 4 free offering will be Amnesia: Collection, collecting both Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, just in time for the Halloween holiday.

Here are the free games PlayStation Plus members will be able to scoop up in October, as noted in Wednesday morning's PlayStation Blog post:

  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (PS4)
  • Amnesia: Collection (PS4)
  • RIGS: Mechanized Combat League (PS4/PSVR)
  • Monster Jam Battlegrounds (PS3)
  • Hustle Kings (PS3)
  • Hue (PS Vita)
  • Sky Force Anniversary (PS Vita)

PlayStation Plus members are also being offered access to the upcoming Hand of the Gods closed beta. This turn-based strategy card game is set to kick off its beta on October 17.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
