Hearthstone fans have been waiting for a new expansion and Blizzard finally announced at the Hearthstone: Spring Championships in China that the Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion will be coming out in August. The developers of the CCG that still has millions of people playing everyday also announced a new Hero card type that will definitely change the balance of the game.

Blizzard also provided some more details in a statement:

Adventurers will soon travel to Northrend, where they’ll confront the Lich King and be raised as Death Knights, wielding otherworldly powers and stealing life from their opponents, and ultimately ascending Icecrown Citadel to claim the Frozen Throne—and 135 frosty new cards—for themselves.

In Knights of the Frozen Throne, players storm Icecrown Citadel, the Lich King’s frozen fortress, in pursuit of the forbidden might of runic magic. Rumor has it the Lich King seeks champions to imbue with the icy essence of undeath: players will soon receive his favor in the form of nine new legendary Hero Cards that, when played, transform Hearthstone’s heroes into fearsome Death Knights, granting frost-rimed armor and modified powers. The Lich King has also decided to bestow players with a new power from beyond the grave: “Lifesteal,” a chilling new keyword, heals players for damage dealt.

Those not content with merely serving at the Lich King’s behest can challenge him directly in a series of free missions that Knights of the Frozen Throne will offer to all players. Step into Icecrown Citadel in the prologue mission, then venture through the citadel’s two wings as you fight iconic bosses like Professor Putricide and Sindragosa on your way to a final epic showdown against The Lich King himself. After completing the prologue mission, players will receive a random legendary Death Knight Hero Card.

Hearthstone's Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion will be winnable in Arena mode and purchaseable with in-game gold or real money at the same prices as Hearthstone’s other card packs. Starting today and up until the expansion is released, players can pre-purchase Knights of the Frozen Throne card packs in a 50-pack bundle, on any platform, for a one-time price of $49.99 (one purchase per account). Those who do so will be granted a unique themed card back from the Lord of the Scourge himself.

We will keep a very close eye on the new cards that Blizzard announces over the next month and will post our reactions to the new Hero card type and the Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion on Shacknews tomorrow.

Does introducing lifesteal mean warlock will be relevant again, because that class definitely got pushed off a ledge the second un'goro hit? They have to play a sad version of handlock now. I feel bad when I beat them.

I have been playing pokemon TCG online, and have not looked back. Hearthstone is just too expensive. Magic just pulled the plug on their iPad game (expected, it was garbage). Ascension is still amazing, will buy every set in perpetuity :)

No. I have played too many games where I have spent way too much money to watch the support disappear (every game made by decipher, eye of judgment)

Pokemon tcg probably sounds silly to you, but I assure you it is far more badass than you would assume. Plus it has staying power, money and developers that REALLY care about their product. Ptcgo on my iPad is truly incredible.

It's probably Arthas since they were playing the "Arthas, My Son" music track under Jaina's speech.

The new guy is kind of losing it in the current WoW storyline as well. He is having Deathknights take the corpse of Uther and other stuff like that. And I think people expect Jaina to take over the role of Lich King at some point that is if she isn't a Dreadlord.

I think everyone is kind of losing it in Legion except for the Druids. They're still pretty chill and pulling the "we got dis" line.
