The next game from Supergiant finally has a release date: July 25. The new RPG will launch exclusively on PC and PlayStation 4 for $19.99.

Pyre is a party-based RPG in which teams of three compete in "Rites," a sport-like strategy competition. Winning the Rites helps your party of Exiles reach enlightenment. Supergiant notes that it has no game over screen, instead emphasizing that the story and journey continues after a loss, as your band of exiles brushes itself off and goes back into their quest. Its sport-like structure also allows for a Versus Mode

"Pyre has been in development for nearly three years," creative director Greg Kasavin said in a post on the PlayStation Blog. "We can now safely say that it’s the biggest game we’ve ever created, offering substantially more ways to play and more characters to meet than either Bastion or Transistor before it. With each new game we’ve made, we’ve endeavored to push ourselves out of our creative comfort zone to make something that felt fresh to us, in the belief that this would translate to a worthwhile experience for our players. We cannot wait for you to try it and hear what you think."

Supergiant is known for its previous games, Bastion and Transistor. Those debut and sophomore efforts were hailed for their stylish visuals and music, and uniquely blended gameplay hooks. Pyre looks similarly stylized as the studio continues to establish a strong voice in the industry.
