Smite releasing March 25, followed by $100,000 tournament

Hi-Rez Studios' free-to-play game Smite is coming on March 25, 2014. Progress from the open beta will carry over, and the top teams from a weekly tournament will take part in the finals on March 29-30.

Tribes: Ascend won't receive any 'major' updates for at least six months

A steady flow of fresh content is important for the well-being of free-to-play multiplayer games but Tribes: Ascend, well, is looking a little peaky. Developer Hi-Rez has said its timeline for the next six months doesn't include any "major" for the free-to-play FPS, and maybe not any after that, as it focuses on other games.

Hi-Rez Studios is releasing a Tribes: Ascend "Game of the Year" edition on Friday. It packages all of the classes, weapons, and perks together for a "launch discount" price of $29.99, or $19.99 for current VIPs.

Smite now in open beta

If you've got the Dota crazies and are stuck by an irresistible urge to play every last one of the games inspired by the classic mod, here's another for you. Tribes: Ascend developer Hi-Rez's Dote 'em up Smite entered open beta yesterday, with the twists of controlling more like a regular third-person action game and boasting a lineup of real, actual, live, living gods and mythological creatures.
